A terrible fall that left one horse dead, a jockey with broken ribs and a broken pelvis and another with concussion marred the Black Opal Stakes preview day at Canberra's Thoroughbred Park on Sunday.
The Luke Pepper-trained Redominanced broke a leg on the bend in the maiden plate (1000 metres) and fell, bringing down three other horses in the process.
Redominanced was put down, while her jockey Richie Bensley was taken to hospital with broken ribs, a broken pelvis and had a small pocket of air in his lungs, which wasn't thought to be dangerous.
