riddenfortheribbon.blogspot.com/2015/11/the-principles-of-equestrianism.html#moreThis sums it up perfectly. Traditional horse training is pressure and release. Every single aspect of it. But horses don't need pressure and release. They can be trained perfectly fine using what I call: communication. A horse will not do an exercise at liberty if: 1. He's not physically able to do it. 2. He's not mentally able to do it. 3. He doesn't understand what you're asking him to do. 4. He knows what you're asking, but he doesn't enjoy the exercise. But both my horses are more than happy to perform an exercise, because I make sure they're physically and mentally able to do so, that I'm communicating well for them to understand, and that they enjoy the exercise. And my horses have learned to enjoy my company because I don't use pressure and release ever, I train everything at liberty (none of my training is begun with a halter or any other headpiece or restraint), and I give them love, pets, and treats. These are facts, not opinions. Any person can work with a horse at liberty, no restraints, no force, no punishment, and no aversives (pressure and release). It's been done many times, it just takes an open mind.
