To begin doing Haute Ecole movements, you should have these exercises down flat: 1. Cordeo. Walk, trot, turn, stop, ramener, backing, lower head, flexing head side to side, raise head, and natural collection. 2. Having your horse follow you at liberty without the guidance of the cordeo. This should be done at the walk, trot, and canter. 3. Basic mimicry. Lift your leg. Does your horse lift his too? Back up (without using the cordeo). Does he back up along with you? If not, you need to work on more mimicry exercises, as a lot of the Haute Ecole elements are taught using mimicry. Then you're ready to begin the beginning stretches. The first being the crunch (regular crunch and back crunch), mountain goat, stepping under with the hind leg in the walk, lifting the legs, standing on a plateau or platform, jambette, and Spanish walk. Then you can move on from there. donoharmhorsemanship.boards.net/thread/7/liberty-haute-ecoleIt's always important to have the beginning exercises (Cordeo, having your horse follow you, and mimicry which are listed above) because that's the foundation for everything you will need to teach your horse the Haute Ecole movements.
